One of the Park District's most unique facilities is the 13-mile Slippery Elm Trail. The Trail extends from Sand Ridge Road in Bowling Green, south through Rudolph, to East Broadway in North Baltimore.

The Slippery Elm Trail is an asphalt surfaced multi-use trail constructed on an abandoned railway for use by non-motorized vehicles. It is perfect for anyone from the most avid cyclists, in-line skaters and joggers to the beginner. Plus, with a railroad grade, it is easily accessible with a wheelchair.

Parking for Trail users is available at four locations:
  1. North Trail Terminus - Sand Ridge Road at the Montessori School.
  2. Portage Road, at the northeast corner of the trail intersection.
  3. Rudolph Savanna trail access grass parking area
Located on Rudolph Road, west of the Slippery Elm Trail, north of Mermill Road and south of Greensburg Pike.  An access trail has been cleared to the Slippery Elm Trail, but is for pedestrian use only and is about 1/4 mile long through a very nice meadow and wooded area.  Restrooms are not available at this time.  This site will continue to be under development. Future development will include an improved pedestrian trail system, and a paved connector trail for bicycle access to the Slippery Elm Trail and restrooms.
  4. South Trail Terminus on East Broadway in North Baltimore.
