Carter-Loomis Farm Park
18331 Carter Road, Bowling Green, Ohio
The Carter-Loomis Farm Park consists of 80 acres of farm fields, woodlot, and
homestead located at 18331 Carter Road between Nelson Road and Simonds Road, a half-mile north
of the Zimmerman School.
*Park development for historic 1900s farm demonstrations is in the planning
stages. The farrowing house and barn are slowly being transformed for special
programs and future events. For more information, please contact Park District
Headquarters at (800) 321-1897 toll-free in Wood County; otherwise (419)
353-1897.
The Carter-Loomis Farm Park is not currently
open to drop-in visitors. But, more and more programs are being offered
there so individuals and families can enjoy the wonders of farm life. Many
area
schoolchildren are acquainted with Sally Loomis, who for many years
related stories about her life on the farm and her studies at the
Zimmerman One-Room Schoolhouse just down the road.

Lyle Loomis: OUR HOPES FOR OUR
FARM…
1.
Lasting 99+ years,
and on and on.
2.
It will be green
space, where people can come to relax and be refreshed.
3.
It will be
agriculturally related.
4.
It may be used by
schools, or other groups, or families.
5.
It may be
historically related, showing what farm-life was like early in
this
century.
6.
It may offer
“Come-See” or “Hands On” kind of experiences.
7.
It may include
celebrations of rural Americana.
8.
It will not be a
“housing development.”
Sally Loomis: I
HOPE OUR FARM MAY BE…
1.
A
place where those seeking a quiet place may come and rest and be
renewed on a bench under a tree or a walk in the woods.
2.
A
place where families may come to have a picnic and where children
will have a place to play.
3.
A
place where people may come and learn of some of the joys and
some of the hardships of rural life a hundred years ago.
4.
PERHAPS: A place where friendly farm animals may reach out to a
friendly hand.
5.
A
place where the old farm buildings can tell a story of farm life
in days gone by.
6.
A
place where people can take a quiet path in the woods and see the
wild flowers there.
7.
MAYBE: A place where families can come and camp for a few days
(i.e. tent camping).
8.
A
place where some flowers and gardens grow.
9.
A
place where land not necessary for the above activities may be
farmed and the income used to help keep up the buildings. This
may be easier to do with the present day methods. (We have a
farmer who loves this place.)
10.
A
place where friendliness and helpfulness to reach out to all who
may come to rest, to play, or to work.
11.
A
place where no land will ever be sold or acquired in any way for
a housing or commercial project.
